Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Powderless nitrile disposable gloves are the best to buy for almost all applications. They are comfortable and have good dexterity and movement like latex. There's no known allergies (latex-free) and they have awesome chemical protection (unlike vinyl gloves). They're great for cleaning, medical and food applications.

Latex gloves are made of natural rubber. They are comfortable but some people are allergic to latex and they are not suitable for food applications. Nitrile gloves are made of synthetic rubber that gives excellent chemical protection and puncture resistance. Nitrile gloves are suitable for food, medical and cleaning applications. Good quality nitrile gloves offer similar comfort levels to latex gloves.

Vinyl gloves are usually cheaper than nitrile but offer limited protection against chemicals. Nitrile is more suitable for cleaning and medical applications. They also tend to perform better and last longer with their superior strength and chemical resistance. Vinyl disposable gloves might be okay for food applications or nappy changes, but vinyl definitely not the recommended glove for cleaning.

Some powdered gloves can be easier to put on but the powders used, including the supposedly kid-friendly cornmeal starch, has been known to cause allergic reactions including anaphylaxis! For this reason powdered gloves are not recommended for food or medical use. The powder also has a taste, and smell that makes it unsuitable for these applications. The powder does make a mess, especially on dark coloured cloths so we recommend going powder-free whenever you can.

Nitrile rubber gloves are most popular in hospitals because they are more puncture and chemical resistant than latex (natural rubber) or vinyl gloves. Nitrile gloves are super versatile and are not known to cause allergic reactions. Nitrile is ideal for medical examination gloves, surgical gloves and gloves for handling most hazardous materials in a hospital environment.
