Soap scum or hard water mineral stains... how can you tell the difference?
Water spots and stains on glass are often confused with soap scum that doesn’t wash off. The easy way to tell whether the window has a mineral stain is if a regular cleaning detergent does not have any effect on it. Hard water stains can appear as droplets or a general haziness on glass. They can appear white through to a reddish brown colour in some instances. Since it is nearly impossible to clean off hard water staining with regular cleaning methods, we’ve developed a product to help you remove these types of stains from windows and glass.
Spot and stain removal on glass
1. Clean the surface. Remove soap scum and grime. Scrape off any debris. Then use a window washer and squeegee to clean and dry.
2. Wet the surface with water.
3. Sprinkle the powder onto a wet non-scratch scourer.
4. Scrub the surface for at least 3 minutes in different directions. Scrub north, south, east and west, clockwise and anticlockwise. On many types of glass, this will make a big difference.
5. Rinse/wash the surface with water.
6. Check to see that the stain is removed or improved and repeat the procedure if necessary.
Top Tip: Scrubbing the stain remover in all directions is a must. In many cases, a right-handed person can have different success to a left-handed person (and visa-versa) just because of the direction they tend to scrub in.
Silicon stain removal
1. Clean the surface. Remove excess silicone residue with a glass scraper. Wash and squeegee to remove all residues.
2. Sprinkle the powder onto a non-scratch scourer and rub it onto the surface dry.
3. Scrub the surface.
4. Check to see that the stain is removed or improved and repeat the procedure if necessary.
Handy tips
• Always test first in an inconspicuous area before using any cleaning solution. Play it safe, especially when you use a product for the first time. Better to be safe than sorry. Some surfaces can be sensitive to moisture and particular chemical types.
How much Pixie Dust will I need for my glass/window?
The coverage rate of Pixie Dust is approximately 5-10g per 1m² per application. For bad staining, you may have to repeat the procedure which will increase the amount you use per metre².

Does it work every time? Is it guaranteed to work?
Nope! It is important you have the right expectations before going ahead and buying Pixie Dust. If your glass is not looking right after cleaning and you don't know what to do next, you have 3 options. You can...
1. Try to restore the glass with the Pixie Dust system, or...
2. Put up with it, OR...
3. Get the glass replaced.
We recommend the first option as it's worked for tens of thousands of people all accross Australia on some absolutley terrible looking glass. AND its only not worked a few times due to serious damage, type of glass, treated surface, unknown history or a weird condition with the environment around the glass. So the odds are in your favour.
If you want 100% guaranteed results, you will need to have the glass replaced :)
Will Pixie Dust damage any types of surfaces?
Pixie Dust can come into contact with other surfaces during the application process. You should protect all painted, natural stone, some metals and acid-sensitive surfaces from contact with Pixie Dust. For example, if you are removing a hard water stain from a shower glass panel and the surrounding tiles are marble, you will need to protect them from the chemicals to prevent etching as Pixie Dust is a low pH (acidic) product.
The glass stains looked really bad but came off easily. Is that normal?
Sometimes hard water stains will look severe but can be removed with Pixie Dust relatively easily. Other times the stain will look minor but can be very difficult to remove. Do not judge a hard water stain by the way it looks. The stain and glass type has a lot to do with ease of removal.
Any more tips for using Pixie Dust?
a. Glass and windows should always be thoroughly cleaned, including removing soap scum, road grime and other debris, before removing any stains.
b. For large or difficult areas of stains use a circular pad on a drill or buffer. Ensure you keep the solution wet.
c. Top Tip: Scrubbing the stain remover in all directions is a must. In many cases, a right-handed person can have different success than a left-handed person (and visa-versa) just because of the direction they tend to scrub in.
d. Do not let the Pixie Dust solution dry on the glass. Do not try to remove hard water stains in direct sunlight or from hot glass. The solution can dry out too quickly before it can work.
e. Do not allow the stain removal solution to dry or sit on the window frames. Wash off immediately.
